Alda M. Hendricks, of the Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Township, formerly a longtime resident of Perkasie, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Gordon Hendricks, who died in 1984. She was 98.
Born in Perkasie, she was the daughter of the late Clayton L. and Anna E. (Erb) Fretz. She was a 1931 graduate of Lansdale High School.
Mrs. Hendricks had been employed as a receptionist with the U.S. Gauge Division, Ametek, Inc., Sellersville, for 26 years, retiring in 1978.
A member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, since 1940, Alda had taught Sunday school and participated in the Prayer Circle. She was also a member of the church quilting group and assisted with the Kitchen Committee. Mrs. Hendricks was the oldest living member of the church.
Always interested in helping others, Alda volunteered with the Red Cross blood drives for 20 years and was a knitter for the Grand View Hospital Serendipity Gift Shop.
Alda enjoyed sports and, especially, swimming with her great-great-grandson.
Mrs. Hendricks is survived by her daughter, Judy Frank and her husband, G. Patrick “Pat”, of West Rockhill Township; three grandchildren: Karen Gallagher and her husband, Ed, of Richlandtown; Suzanne Kuhns and her husband, Mark, of Blooming Glen; and Kristy Goepfert and her husband, Ken, of Perkasie; six great-grandchildren: Cheryl George and her husband, Wade, of Perkasie; Kelly Gallagher, of Emmaus; Kassandra Goepfert; Kyle Goepfert, both of Perkasie; Stephanie Kuhns; Jennifer Kuhns, both of Blooming Glen; two great-great-grandchildren: Wesley and Jayla.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clayton Fretz, and two sisters: Gertrude Hendricks and Marion McCarthy.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 20, in St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dill Avenue and Chestnut Street, Perkasie. Friends may call Friday morning at church, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in St. Andrew’s Union Cemetery, Perkasie.
