Joan E. (Leyrer) Hempelmann

The Hempelmann Family wishes to share their sadness in announcing the passing of their beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Joan E. Hempelmann, 73, of Quakertown, passed away August 14, 2010, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of H. Kurt Hempelmann for 55 years.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Wesley William and Edna Marion (Censky) Leyrer.

Mrs. Hempelmann was primarily a homemaker.

An excellent seamstress, she was also a gifted ceramics artist and a talented woodworker. Joan was a passionate animal lover, known for rescuing wayward turtles and offering a home to any stray dog. She especially loved trips to Ocean City, where she enjoyed fishing and crabbing.

Known amongst family and friends for her determined spirit and loving attention, she will be deeply missed.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters: Lynda Johnson, and her husband, Walter, of Quakertown; and Debbie Dickson, and her husband, Robert, of Quakertown; four grandchildren: Kyle, Kendal, Haylle, and Sydney; three great-grandchildren: Madison, Cody, and Ethan; and her beloved dog, "Tootsie."

Services were held on August 17, 2010, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, Sellersville.

Interment was in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Perkasie.
