The Hempelmann Family wishes to share their sadness in announcing the passing of their beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
H. Kurt Hempelmann, 77, of Quakertown, passed away January 8, 2011, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan E. Hempelmann for 55 years until her death in 2010.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Herman A. and Olga (Noelle) Hempelmann.
Mr. Hempelmann had been employed for many years as a law enforcement officer in Philadelphia, for a time proudly serving as personal bodyguard to former Mayor James Tate. He was a personal friend of former Police Commissioner and Mayor Frank Rizzo.
Following his disability retirement from the police force, Kurt worked in security services for Neshaminy Manor, the Bucks County Courthouse, and High Point Racquet Club. He also worked part-time at Philco Ford, Lansdale, and the Hatfield Water & Sewer Department.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Kurt loved guns and target shooting. He also loved all types of music and watching television.
Mr. Hempelmann is survived by his daughters: Lynda Johnson, and her husband, Walter, of Quakertown; and Debbie Dickson, and her husband, Robert, of Quakertown; four grandchildren: Kyle, Kendal, Haylle, and Sydney; and three great-grandchildren: Madison, Cody, and Ethan.
Services were held on January 11, 2011, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, Sellersville.
Interment was in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Perkasie.
