Katherine L. "Kitty" Helm, 67, of Sellersville, entered into eternal life on Monday, February 6, 2012, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. She was the beloved wife of Paul E. Helm for 41 years.
Born in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Mary E. (Kujan) McKeown, of North Wales, and the late Henry S. McKeown. She was a 1962 graduate of Cheltenham High School.
Since 1981, Kitty had been employed by the Pennridge School District in the food services department as a cafeteria worker, baker, and manager at Sellersville Elementary, the Freshman Center, and the High School. Most recently, she had been the cafeteria manager at South Middle School. Mrs. Helm had also helped to operate the football concession stand.
Earlier, she had also been employed by Woolworth’s and Ye Old Reliance Inn, of Souderton. She also had been a part-time cook at the Souderton Mennonite Homes over the last fifteen years.
She was a long-time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville.
Kitty was an avid Phillies fan. She liked collecting spoons, knitting, doing counted cross stitch, and reading mystery novels. With her husband, she loved going on cruises and on time-share vacations. She loved working with students and enjoyed being around young people. She and her husband were also long- time members of the Independent Order of Foresters, where they did various volunteer work for the greater community.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her two children: Teresa L. Gledhill and her husband, Ronald, of Upper Saucon Township; Matthew E. Helm, of Sellersville; three grandchildren: Grace, Theo, and Ford, all of San Francisco, California; a brother, James McKeown, and his wife, Nancy, of Hainesport, New Jersey; a sister, MaryAnn Beck, and her husband, Charles, of Glenside, and her beloved cat, "Tigger."
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Beck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 13, 2012, in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call Monday morning at the church from 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass.
Interment will follow in Sellersville Cemetery.
