Phyllis Lynn Hayes, of Coopersburg, formerly of Sellersville, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, after a valiant years-long battle with cancer. She was 67.
She was the beloved wife of William C. Hayes, Jr. They would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary in August.
Born in Sellersville, she was the daughter of the late Roland, Jr. and Shirley (Hockman) Moyer. Phyllis was a 1974 graduate of Pennridge High School. She would later earn degrees from Kutztown University and Lehigh University.
A beloved educator, employed for decades with the Pennridge School District as an elementary school teacher and Reading Specialist, Phyllis helped to shape the lives of hundreds and hundreds of children, whether through reading, writing, or swimming. It was a role she loved as she watched each child’s development and growth.
Always a health enthusiast, avid bicyclist, and swimmer, Phyllis also loved to travel extensively with her husband and groups of friends. A loving, kind-hearted woman, Phyllis’ warm smile, engaging laugh, determined strength, and unflagging spirit endeared her to all.
The family would like to thank, especially, all the doctors and nurses from Penn Medicine. Phyllis wished to remember and thank her “Like Sisters:” Peggi, Kim, Bev, Gwen, Anne, Vickie, and Laura for their unflinching support and love and, most particularly, her husband and children for their strength, guidance, and love.
In addition to her husband, Phyllis is survived by her children: Matthew C. Hayes and his wife, Sarah, of Tampa, FL, Margaret “Maggie” Allyson Hayes and her wife, MaryCate Gordon, of Philadelphia, and Timothy P. Hayes and his wife, Dana, of Kona, Hawaii; four grandchildren: Henry, Leo, Theo, and Camden, and “one on the way;” and her three brothers and their families: Roland III, Andrew, and Michael Moyer.
Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 17, in St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
