Harry Harvey, of Sellersville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at his residence. He was 83.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Harry James Henry Harvey, Jr. and Henrietta (Potts) Harvey. With his siblings, Harry was reared in Philadelphia and educated in the Philadelphia school system. He later moved to Mount Holly, New Jersey.

Harry had been employed by Kmart and later at Altec Services’ WAC program, in Colmar, before moving on to their Older Adult Program, in Hatfield, from where he retired.

A longtime resident in the LifePath organization, Harry had lived at several homes, including Fairview, Jean Drive, Lederach Road, and Hilltown, before moving to Diamond Street in May 2020. While at Diamond Street, Harry happily adjusted to the staff and his housemates. His loving, kind, and humble manner, warm heart, and infectious smile endeared him to all.

In March 2004 at the Montgomery County MR luncheon, Harry proudly received the Herman Roether Award, an honor that he cherished.

He was a man of varied interests and passions. In his youth Harry was a sharp dresser with a penchant for hats and suits, carrying himself as a distinguished gentleman: polite, inquisitive, and gracious. He enjoyed traveling but remained loyal to his Philadelphia roots and culture, from barbershop talks to classic soul music to “good soul food” - all made Harry’s heart sing.

Harry had a stock of “Knock-Knock” jokes always on hand for breaking the ice, although he often laughed himself silly prior to delivering the punchline. Harry loved watching his favorite TV shows, especially “Leave It to Beaver” and “Perry Mason,” in the mornings. He particularly loved “General Hospital” and was quick to tell staff members what had happened if they missed the show. As a sports fan, he loved watching wrestling and following the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.

Harry was no fool, and he made sure that you knew it. He expressed his political preferences frequently and emphatically. He loved going out into the community and especially going to vote. Even with his health declining, he was able to cast his paper ballot.

Harry would let you know very quickly if you did not hold to your arrangements with him, but he never held a grudge. He enjoyed attention, but he also relished his alone time.

Always close to his family, Harry loved to tell stories of his youth, growing up in a large family. He always looked forward to celebrating Christmas and opening presents and spending even more time with his family, to whom he was affectionately known as Jr.

All who knew him will miss this true gentleman, a loving, kind soul who touched hearts and made lasting friendships. To know Jr. was to love him.

Harry is survived by his three siblings: Willie Harvey and his wife, Lisa, Barbara Harvey, and Carole Harvey and her husband, Carl. Also left to cherish his memory are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and all of his LifePath caregivers over the years.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Ronald Harvey, Ivan Harvey, Earl Harvey, Kramen Harvey, and Rodney Russell.

His Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
