Ronald G. Hammes

Ronald George Hammes, 76, of Sellersville, formerly of Perkasie, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was the beloved husband of Kathryn Anne (Titus) Hammes for 16 years and his first wife, the late Tobi (Sanders) Hammes, who died in 1987.

Born in Janesville, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Florence (Hilmeyer) Hammes.

Ron was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served during the Korean War.

Mr. Hammes was a 1974 graduate of the Arts Student League, New York City.

A man of many talents, Ron had been employed as a freelance artist, working for Bantam Books and Dell Books, in New York City; and as an art instructor for the Adult Education School of the Quakertown School District and for BARC, in Bucks County.

He was also employed as a ski instructor for the blind, at Shawnee on the Delaware, and as a professional table tennis player, competing at Northampton Community College.

Ron was associated with the Arts Student League and the American Writers Guild, both of New York City.

He had also been a practicing member of Zen Mountain Buddhist monastery, in New York, and most recently, with Endless Mountain Zendo, in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Hammes was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie.

He enjoyed writing and meditating.

In addition to his wife Kathryn, Ron is survived by two sons: Patrick Titus, and his wife, Jordan, of Cave City, Arkansas; Tim Nikitin, of Sellersville; one grandson, Conner; a sister, Joan Hammes Walker and her husband, Robert, of Fremont, California; and his beloved parakeet, "Sophie Louise."

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tobi, and a brother, John Hammes.

His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 3:00 P.M. in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 19 South Fifth Street, Perkasie, PA 18944. There are no calling hours. The family will greet friends after the service.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family, in care of the Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960.
