Barbara C. Halvorsen, of Sellersville, formerly of New Jersey, passed away at her residence at The Community at Rockhill on Friday, July 26, 2024. She was 85.
She was the beloved wife of Rev. Robert A. Halvorsen, Sr. for 61 years.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Russell L. and Dorothy Dale (Myers) Clark. Barbara was a 1956 graduate of Allentown High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University in 1960.
Mrs. Halvorsen had been employed as an administrative assistant to the mayor of Avalon, NJ from 1987-2002, while also serving as the town’s Public Relations Coordinator. Upon her retirement, she was cited by the New Jersey Legislature for distinguished public service. From 1986-1987, she was employed by the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce as secretary to the Executive Director. She also served as the editor of the Jersey Caper publication.
Over the years, as the spouse of a Lutheran pastor, Mrs. Halvorsen had helped serve churches in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Minnesota. Most recently, she had attended services at the Community at Rockhill.
A proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Barbara could trace her ancestry back to ten relatives who had served in the Revolution. She adored dogs and horses, but she most especially loved spending time with her family.
