Willard G. "Willie" Hager

January 5, 1925 — December 10, 2011

Willard G. "Willie" Hager, 86, formerly a long-time resident of Perkasie, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011, at his residence in the Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Township. He was the husband of the late Virginia D. (Wimmer) Hager for 49 years before her death in May of this year.

Born in Quakertown, he was the son of the late Clifford Manasseh and Helen (George) Hager. He was a 1942 graduate of Quakertown High School.

Mr. Hager proudly served his beloved country in the U.S. Army 69th Infantry during World War II. He earned five Bronze Stars while participating in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign.

A meat cutter for his entire life, Willie first began working for his grandfather at Hager’s Meats, then at Headman’s Meats, both formerly of Quakertown. He later worked many years at the former C.D. Moyer, Silverdale. He retired from Knauss Dried Beef, Quakertown, in 1987.

He had been a member of the Quakertown American Legion Post 242.

Mr. Hager was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, where he faithfully served as Superintendent of the Sunday School and as an usher. He had also sung with the choir and the funeral choir.

Along with his wife, he had often visited "shut-in" members of the congregation and had volunteered at the Rockhill Mennonite Community after re-locating there a few years ago.

Willie loved the Phillies and Eagles and enjoyed going to Reading Phillies games with his friends. He especially loved walking in Lake Lenape Park with his wife.

Mr. Hager is survived by his daughter, Kathy J. Green, and her husband, LCDR Mark R. Green, USN; two grandsons, Noah and Kevin, all of Pace, Florida; and a sister, Doris Trumbauer, and her husband, Robert, of Kunkletown, Pennsylvania.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 16, 2011, in St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dill Avenue and Chestnut Street, Perkasie, PA 18944, where family and friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until time of service.

Interment will be in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Perkasie.
