Stephen J. Grimes

Stephen Joseph Grimes, of Sellersville, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022, following a long illness. He was 81.

Born in Wildwood, NJ, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Carrie (Demetz) Grimes. Stephen spent most of his childhood in Philadelphia, graduating from Northeast Catholic High School in 1958.

His five-year apprenticeship with the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard resulted in his employment there as a master plumber until his retirement in 1993.

Relocating from Germantown to Souderton, Stephen dedicated himself to his mother’s care.

He spent his final years in Sellersville, where he enjoyed carpentry and repairing clocks.

Mr. Grimes is survived by his brother, Dr. Joseph P. Grimes, and his wife, Mary Jane; his sister, Joan Glackin; six nieces: Kathleen DiMarco, Penny Meyerson, Nancy Mattsson, Carrie Smith, Frances Dougherty, and Beth Ann Breault; and a nephew, John McGinniss, Jr.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Gloria Grimes, Maria McGinniss, and Rose Wallace, and a niece, Christine Casey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, at Our Mother of Consolation Parish, 9 East Chestnut Hill Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118, where a visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
