Bernard Paul "Bernie" Griesel, of Sellersville, formerly of Hilltown and Huntingdon Valley, crossed over into eternal life on Friday, March 23, 2012, at his residence in the Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Township. He was the beloved husband of Alexandra P. "Elsie" (Terpeluk) Griesel for 53 years. He celebrated his 81st birthday on March 22.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Bernard and Wanda (Graff) Griesel.
For 17 years, Bernie had been employed as an automotive service manager with two GM dealerships in Philadelphia. He later was the popular owner and proprietor of Bernie’s Texaco Service Station, Huntingdon Valley, for 24 years.
Since his move to the area 20 years ago, Mr. Griesel had been a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville.
In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, yard work, taking long car drives with his wife, and spending vacations at Long Beach Island, New Jersey. To those who loved him, he was known as "Mr. Fix-It" because of his handyman abilities.
In addition to his wife, Bernie is survived by his eight children: Thomas Griesel, and his wife, Buffie, of Loveland, Colorado; Alexis McLaughlin, and her husband, John, of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Paula Nice, and her husband, Scott, of Hatboro; Lisa Rehborn, and her husband, Randy, of Lansdale; Bernard Griesel, and his wife, Kimberly, of Churchville, Pennsylvania; Audrey Bayer, and her companion, Kevin Byrnes, of Lambertville, New Jersey; Michael Griesel, and his wife, Heather, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Kristina Griesel, of Lansdale; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Griesel; two sisters: Eleanor Peitzman; and Helen Schmidt; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Griesel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 29, 2012, in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where family and friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until 9:45 A.M.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Elkins Park.
