Dorris Caroline Francis, 94, formerly of Sellersville and Philadelphia, passed on Sunday, May 2, 2010, in her residence at the Masonic Village at Warminster. She was the wife of the late Andrew R. Francis.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Pillion) Strohl and stepdaughter of the late Elizabeth (Gorrell) Strohl.
Until her retirement, she had been employed as an executive secretary at Keystone AAA, Philadelphia.
A lifelong Lutheran, Dorris was most recently a member of St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville.
Mrs. Francis was a past member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lenape Chapter.
As a young woman, she had volunteered as a Girl Scout leader. Following her cancer diagnosis, she also volunteered for the American Cancer Society. More recently, her volunteer work included RSVP of Bucks County and Grand View Hospital of West Rockhill Township.
After retiring, Dorris studied oil painting at St. Anne’s Senior Center, Philadelphia, and the Pennridge Community Senior Center, Perkasie. She proudly gifted her many paintings to family members and won awards at the state level.
Mrs. Francis is survived by her two daughters: Elaine A. Balinski, and her husband, John J., of Quakertown; and Carolyn J. Swartz, and her husband, Joseph J., of Pennsburg; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Strohl, and a step-brother, Louis Laubengeyer.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 11:00 AM in St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call at the church Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Interment will follow in Sellersville Cemetery.
