Donald Forbes, Jr., of Dublin, formerly of Bloomfield, NJ, passed away, Saturday, March 9, at Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown. He was the beloved husband of Carole (Vagnozzi) Forbes for 52 years. He was 83.
Born in Summit, NJ, he was the son of the late Donald, Sr. and Elizabeth (Bell) Forbes.
Mr. Forbes was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War.
Donald spent his entire career in banking operations, first, for Chemical Bank and later Allied Bank International, both of New York. He retired as a Vice-President of Operations from Crédit Agricole of New York. After his retirement and move to Dublin, he also worked for 11 years with Bonnie’s Flowers, of Chalfont.
He and his wife were dedicated members of Christ Episcopal Church of Bloomfield and Glen Ridge in New Jersey, where he helped to establish the Nursery School and served as a Sunday school teacher.
Along with his wife, Mr. Forbes was a former member of the Bloomfield High School Music Parents Association. After moving to Dublin, Donald volunteered at Neshaminy Manor, Warrington and was involved with politics and local elections.
Donald enjoyed family trips to Vermont and the Jersey shore. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a diehard Giants and Yankees fan.
He loved chocolate, dancing, and old movie musicals, especially Fred Astaire films. A storyteller with a wealth of bad jokes, Donald was proud of his Scottish heritage.
His strong work ethic and outgoing, positive outlook endeared him to all. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Donald most loved spending time with family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Forbes is survived by his children: Karen J. Forbes and her husband, Larry Gage, of Doylestown; Douglas A. Forbes and his wife, Elena Matyas, of Pasadena, CA; and two grandchildren: Nathaniel Gage, of Doylestown; and Roxie Forbes, of Pasadena.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
