Helen A. (Janata) Erickson

August 2, 1923 — November 28, 2013

Helen A. Erickson, of Lansdale, formerly of New Mexico and New Jersey, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013, in the Golden Living Nursing Center, Lansdale. She was 90. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold Erickson.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sophia (Litzenberger) Janata.

Mrs. Erickson had worked for a tailor and been self-employed as a seamstress. She had also owned and operated a fabric and notions store for over five years.

Helen had been a member of Crossroads Community Church, of Hatfield.

An expert seamstress, Helen also enjoyed painting. She had played the washboard in several church bands, which performed at area nursing homes.

Mrs. Erickson is survived by her children: Alexis S. Christy and her husband, Kent E., of Telford; Janice A. Kurkewicz; Steven G. Kurkewicz; three grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward Kurkewicz.

Her memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Erickson’s name may be made to the Crossroads Community Church, 200 North Main Street, Hatfield, PA 19440.
