Gregory “Bucky” James Davis, of Sellersville, formerly of Warrington, passed away from cancer on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at his residence with his devoted fiancée, Karen Kelley, by his side. He was 59.
Born in Elkins Park and growing up in Roslyn, Greg was the son of the late William W. and Jacqueline A. (Samkavitz) Davis. The family later moved to Warrington. Greg graduated from Central Bucks East High School, Doylestown, where he had studied auto mechanics in tech school as a connection to his dad, who had died when Greg was twelve years old.
The early loss of his father, a war veteran and Greg’s hero, always affected his life view, causing Greg to wonder how matters might have been different had his dad lived. Greg’s mother’s death when he was a young man also profoundly influenced him. He marveled at her strength and incredible work ethic as she raised four teenagers alone. (Oh, the stories he would tell!)
Greg had been employed for 27 years by Sylvan Pools. A dedicated, hard-working employee, he began as an excavator and later moved to an office position as project manager and an assistant construction manager.
While pursuing his CDL, Greg discovered he had serious medical issues. In 2000, he had surgery to remove a tumor on his spine and to correct a tethered spinal cord. After intensive physical therapy at Moss Rehab and NovaCare, “Bucky” was able to return to normal life.
At a Wildwood Bike Week in 2005, he met Karen, and their adventures began, including Harley rides to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Laconia, New Hampshire (up to the top of Mt. Washington); Am-Jam, in upstate New York; and countless weekend rides with friends. They also enjoyed a trip to Mexico with other Sylvan Pool employees.
Complication arose in 2006, and Greg had another surgery that left him disabled. Despite the valiant attempts by his friends to modify his bike, “Bucky” realized that he had to give up what he loved the most, riding his Harley.
After several more surgeries and countless doctors’ appointments, Greg and Karen adjusted to their new life together. Greg loved to cook, everything from Karen’s mom’s meatballs and eggplant parmigiana, Karen’s favorite, to new recipes. He never missed an episode of “Deadliest Catch” or “The Curse of Oak Island,” enjoying his favorite place, on the couch next to his beloved sweetheart Karen.
Despite the many adversities in his life, Greg always wanted to lend a helping hand. Greg “Bucky” was a better man than most and an inspiration to many. He “walked” through life with determination, integrity, dignity, grace, and a smile for ALL.
Greg is survived by his fiancée, Karen Kelley, of Sellersville; a brother, William Davis; a sister, Jacqueline Davis; a nephew, Jake; and his best friend, Homer Johnson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Davis, and a sister-in-law, Jane (Hamlet) Davis.
The family would like to thank the many friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses, aides, physical therapists, occupational therapists, wound care staff, social workers, delivery persons, and hospice workers that helped along the way. We especially wish to thank Dr. Shipkin and Maria, Flossie, and all the folks at Lifestream Pharmacy, and Julia, his hospice nurse, for the countless hours, dedication, and caring support to help Greg through his life’s journey.
At Greg’s request, there will be no service, and his ashes will be scattered.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Greg’s name may be made to The Breathing Room at www.breathingroomfoundation.org or to Bringing Hope Home at https://bringinghopehome.org or to Grand View Hospital Health Foundation “Charity Care” at www.gvh.org/grand-view-health-foundation.
