William C. Dahling, 85, of Perkasie, formerly of Cape Coral, Florida and Philadelphia, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the beloved husband of Ruth E. (Kunze) Dahling for 65 years.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late August and Caroline (Knoller) Dahling.
Mr. Dahling was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the closing months of World War II. Bill was always particularly proud of his military service to our country.
Bill had been employed with Bond Bread, formerly the General Baking Company, of Philadelphia, for over 30 years. He later had been self-employed as a general handyman in Northeast Philadelphia.
The Dahlings moved to Cape Coral, Florida, in 1996, returning to Pennsylvania earlier this year.
A real “people-person,” Bill loved to walk and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. He liked the changing of the seasons and always looked forward to Autumn. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson.
In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by his two daughters: Sharan Havel, of Holland; Arlene Nolfi and her husband, Edward, of Sellersville; three grandchildren: Kellie Marshall and her husband, Daniel; Robert Kuehne, III, all of Sellersville; Alexandra Smith and her husband, Matthew, of Broomfield, Colorado; a great-grandson, Zachary Marshall, of Sellersville; two sisters: Alice Zaleski, of Elizabethtown; Mildred Bates and her husband, Charles, of Avalon, New Jersey; and his beloved dogs, “Benjie” and “Mollie.”
There are no calling hours.
His graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 21, in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown. All those wishing to attend the service should arrive at the Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville no later than 9:15 a.m. to join the procession to the National Cemetery. Those wishing to go directly to the National Cemetery should be at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions in Bill’s name to the Neurosciences Fund-Lehigh Valley Health Development Department, P.O. Box 4000, Allentown, PA 18105-4000.
