M. Florence Curran, of the Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Township, formerly a long-time resident of Telford, passed away Saturday, February 28 at her residence. She was 99.
She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond A. Curran for 37 years until his death in 1976.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Adlas) Uzdan. Florence was a graduate of John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School, Philadelphia.
During World War II, she had worked as a personnel manager for the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
Florence had been employed for many years as a secretary for the Regina Company, of Rahway, NJ, retiring in 1972.
Mrs. Curran was a long-time active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville, where she had served on the Pastoral Council, the Liturgy Committee, and the PreCana Team. She was the first female Eucharistic Minister and lector. She coordinated the annual Blood Drive for 15 years, wedding rehearsals for 24 years, and chaired the Christmas Bazaar for 18 years. Mrs. Curran was also the secretary of the CYAA and served as chairperson for the 75th Anniversary Committee of St. Agnes Parish.
In 2002 she was the proud recipient of the first St. Agnes Pastor's Stewardship Award. She was cited for "excellence in parish stewardship" and for her many contributions to the faith community in the form of "Time, Talent and Treasure."
Florence had served on the Telford Borough Zoning Hearing Board. She had also been a driving force in the environmental organization, Stop the Oil Pipeline Society.
She enjoyed sewing and traveled extensively world-wide with the Aquinas Society.
Mrs. Curran is survived by her son, Raymond A. Curran, and his wife, Diane, of Salem, MA; three grandchildren, Matthew O. Curran and his wife, Kristin, of Danvers, MA; Timothy M. Curran and his wife, Rita, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Moira Curran Cleary and her husband, Steven, of Merrimac, MA; and five great-grandchildren, Sean Curran, Daniel Curran, Mary Grace Curran, Kaitlin Cleary, and Hazel Cleary.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph, and six sisters, Teresa, Anna, Helen, Frances, Edna, and Eleanor. .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 9 – 10:15 a.m.
Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Pennsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church at the above address.
