Paul Willard Crouthamel, formerly of Hilltown Township, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 in Genesis HealthCare, Quakertown Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn M. (Rummel) Crouthamel for 60 years until her death in 2004. He was 88.
Born in Bedminster Township, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Mary M. (Weikel) Crouthamel.
Paul had been employed for eight years as a school crossing guard at Main Street and Ridge Avenue in Sellersville. Previously, he had worked for ten years as a warehouse forklift operator for Georgia Pacific, Fogelsville. Paul had also been employed for 25 years as a truck driver for the former Jacob J. Vargo Trucking and Vargo Drag Strip, in Perkasie. He also had worked as a truck driver for the former Ciccone & Sons, of Bath.
He was a long-time member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Sellersville.
A 15 year member of the Sellersville Fire Department, Paul had served as the captain of the Fire Police for four years. He had previously served as Fire Police Chief with the Hecktown Fire Company for 11 years and also with the Northampton County Fire Police.
A deputy constable for Hilltown Township, Mr. Crouthamel had also been a constable for Lower Nazareth Township.
Paul was a life-time member of the Keelersville Club.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, and playing pinochle.
Mr. Crouthamel is survived by his three sons, James L. Crouthamel and his wife, Gerry, of Sellersville; Philip Crouthamel, of Wyalusing; Kerry Crouthamel and his wife, Terri, of Bethlehem; five daughters, Eleanor Procht and her husband, Ronald, of Quakertown; Mary Lou Meyers, of Elba, AL; Kathy Stubbs and her husband, Ronald, of Jim Falls, WI; Susan Ottinger and her husband, Jim; and Lou Ann Massey, all of Dothan, AL; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Chester L. Crouthamel, of Valley Forge; and a sister, Sara Brown, of Clearfield, PA.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph E. Crouthamel.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, at the Sellersville Fire Department, 2 North Main Street, Sellersville 18960, where a visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Andrew’s Union Cemetery, Perkasie.
