Richard M. Cripps, Sr., of Perkasie, formerly of Furlong and Philadelphia, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in Abington Hospital, Abington. He had turned 69 on May 7.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Oliver V. and Margaret M. (Paxton) Cripps. He was a 1964 graduate of Central Bucks High School.
Mr. Cripps was a proud veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, having served during the Vietnam War. While in Vietnam, he helped build and operate the Chu Lai catapult system, now displayed in the National Museum of the Marine Corps, in Virginia.
After his military service he had worked as a machinist at Fisher & Porter, Warminster. He had also owned and operated a lawn service business. Most recently, Richard had been employed as a computer systems analyst at McNeil Pharmaceutical, Ft. Washington and at Quest Diagnostics. After retirement, he worked in security at Abington High School.
Mr. Cripps was a member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie.
He was a life-time member of the Marine Corps League.
Richard lived life to its fullest. He loved fishing on his boat, "Ollie's Dream," named in honor of his father. He also had a passion for country music, the 'oldies,’ and storytelling. Richard lovingly washed and waxed his cherished red 1963 Chevy every week.
Dedicated to community service and helping those in need, every year he organized Hatboro’s Mitchell Park Santa Project to give gifts to children. He also volunteered with the Hatboro Ambulance Corps.
The embodiment of the term "proud father," he beamed when speaking of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cripps is survived by his children and their spouses: Denise Franklin (Marshall), Donna Keyser (Stephen), all of Perkasie; Richard M. Cripps, Jr. (Rowena) of Tacoma, WA; eight grandchildren: Rebecca and Jacob Franklin, Rachel, Hannah, and Lacey Keyser, and Eunice, Erika, and Giero Cripps; a sister, Suzanne Jarose (Bruce), of Doylestown; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts; his former wife, lifelong friend, and mother of his children, Beverly (Miller) Cripps, of Doylestown; and a brother-in-law, Frank Malloy, of St Cloud, FL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Malloy.
Interment with full military honors will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a. m., Tuesday, May 20, in St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 20 Dill Avenue, Perkasie 18944.
