Ruth F. Cressman, 90, of Perkasie, formerly of Sellersville, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012, in ManorCare Health Services, Montgomeryville. She was the beloved wife of the late Wayne Cressman, who died in 1979.
Born in Quakertown, she was the daughter of the late Horace W. and Elsie Mae (Hess) Fly.
During World War II, Ruth had been employed in an arms factory. Following that, she had been self-employed as a hairdresser for many years. In addition, she had worked as a nurse’s aide at the Rockhill Mennonite Community, where she also did hairdressing.
Ruth had been a volunteer Cub Scout den mother.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville.
In her spare time, Ruth loved to knit and spend time with her grandchildren. An avid fan of football and baseball, she enjoyed attending Pennridge football games and watching the Phillies and NFL games.
She is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Schaefer, and her husband, Rick, of Harleysville; two sons: Wayne Cressman, and his wife, Carol, of Sellersville; and Todd Cressman, and his wife, Theresa, of Sellersville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Alton Fly, of Quakertown.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Tomkinson; a grandson, Matthew Cressman; a brother, Willard Farrel; and two sisters: Mary Bregler and Dorothy Wenhold.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until time of service.
Interment will be in Sellersville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960.
