Richard D. Coll

Richard “Dick” D. Coll, a life-long resident of Sellersville, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, in the Souderton Mennonite Home, Souderton. He was 86.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie L. (Gruver) Coll for 58 years until her death in 2016.

Born in Sellersville, he was the son of the late Philip H. and Helen (Magargal) Coll. Dick was a 1953 graduate of Sell-Perk High School, where he had lettered in football, baseball, and basketball.

Mr. Coll was a U. S. Air Force veteran, having served from 1954-1958, including a year and a half of overseas duty in Turkey.

Upon his return from the service, Dick attended courses at Temple University, Drexel Institute of Technology, the University of Pennsylvania, and Fels Institute of Local and State Government.

Mr. Coll began his service to Sellersville Borough in the early 1960s, serving as a member of the Planning Commission and Zoning Hearing Board, prior to his appointment as Assistant Secretary in 1967. In 1969, he was appointed Borough Manager. During his decades-long tenure as Borough Manager, he also served on various county and state level organizations affiliated with local government. Municipal service to his hometown was Dick’s passion.

Mr. Coll was a life-time member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Sellersville. He was also a life member of the Sellersville Fire Department.

A proud Irishman, Dick was an avid sports fan, whether playing softball for the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church team as a young man, attending every game of his children’s sports schedules, or coaching his daughter’s softball team. He was also a NASCAR enthusiast, arranging bus trips to races in Bristol, Dover, Richmond, and Martinsville.

Vacations at their mountain home in Dushore, Sullivan County were popular getaways.

Mr. Coll is survived by his three children: P. Michael Coll and his wife, Kathleen, of Souderton; R. David Coll and his wife, Allison, of Maple Glen; and Audrey M. Coll, of Titusville, FL; five grandchildren: Matthew Miller, Braxton Hubner, Philip Coll, Macey Coll, and Alexandra Kim; and a brother, Robert Coll, of Sellersville.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 1, in St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Interment with full military honors will follow in Sellersville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Coll’s name may be made to the Sellersville Fire Department, P.O. Box 315, Sellersville, PA 18960 or St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960.
