Irene Marie Cappel of Sellersville, formerly of Locust Gap, PA, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2014, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. She was 73.
She was the beloved wife of Edwin A. Cappel for 54 years.
Born in Ashland State Hospital (Schuylkill County), she was the daughter of the late Aloysius J. and Eleanor (Hummel) Morgan.
Irene was a 1958 graduate of the former Mt. Carmel Catholic High School, earning the honor of class salutatorian.
Mrs. Cappel had been employed for 15 years at Frederick’s Flowers, Souderton. Prior to that, she had worked as a cytologist at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
An avid gardener and bird watcher, Irene enjoyed drying flowers and making arrangements. She also liked reading, crossword puzzles, and computer games, and she loved the Philadelphia Phillies. Mrs. Cappel most loved to travel and to spend time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cappel is survived by her children: Cydney Cappel; Theresa Cressman and her husband, Todd, all of Sellersville; and Edwin A. Cappel and his wife, Tracy, of Schwenksville. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Chris, Tom, and David Cressman; Callie Cappel-Lynch; Macayla and Madison Cappel; a sister, Theresa Sheetz, and her husband, George, of Spring City; and a brother, James Morgan, of New York City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Morgan.
Her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, November 8, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 N. Main St., Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until time of service.
Interment in Sellersville Cemetery at a later date will be private at the convenience of the family.
