Florence A. Byers, of Pennsburg, formerly of Sellersville, passed away at her residence on Monday, February 27, 2017. She was 91.
She was the beloved wife of Raymond D. Byers, Jr. for 65 years until his death in 2013.
Born in Ozone Park, New York, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Claire M. (Vetter) Harman. She was a 1946 graduate of Notre Dame High School, Wyncote, PA.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Byers had also been employed as a bus driver for the Pennridge School District.
A woman of great faith, Florence was a long-time active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville, where she had served as a Eucharistic minister, had volunteered with the Quilting Club, and had made rosary beads. She was a life member of the Silver and Gold Club and had earned the Excellence in Stewardship Award.
Mrs. Byers was a 35- year member of the Sellersville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she had served on the Kitchen and Easter Flowers Committees.
When her children were young, she had been a Girl Scout leader and had run day camps. Floss had also volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
Mrs. Byers is survived by her children, James Byers and his wife, Roseann, of Quakertown; George Byers, of Parachute, CO; David Byers, Sr. and his wife, Pam, of Pennsburg; Frances Glassmeyer, and her husband, Ed, of Quakertown; Deborah Shewell, and her husband, Rick, of Pennsburg; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa A. Hoff; three sisters, Ruth Schaffer-Hacker, Georgine Frederick, and Mary Dusza; and a brother, Robert Harman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 6, in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 9-9:45 a.m.
Interment in the parish cemetery will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.
