John J. Balinski, 74, of Quakertown, formerly of Sellersville, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was the husband of Elaine A. (Francis) Balinski for 51 years.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Francis A. and Stephanie (Czerw) Balinski.
For most of his life, John was employed as a truck driver in the wholesale industry.
He was an active member of St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville, where he had served on Church Council and the Property Committee. He volunteered with Vacation Bible School and as an usher and greeter. With his wife, he was a member of the small Bible study group.
John was a past member of the Sellersville Moose #1539.
Mr. Balinski volunteered with Pennridge FISH and the National MS Society, especially with the local MS Walk, serving as captain for his wife’s team, "Elaine’s Walkers." He was also involved with the MS City to Shore and the Pennsylvania Dutch Bike Tours.
John had participated in the Pennsylvania Senior Games, competing in darts and bocce.
Hardworking, he had worked as a general handyman, helping others in need.
John enjoyed going to casinos; playing pinochle, poker, and Rummikub; and using his metal detector to search for "treasures." An expert ballroom dancer, he and his wife especially enjoyed dancing to their favorite song, "Moon River."
In addition to his wife, Mr. Balinski is survived by his three children: John J. Balinski, Jr., and his wife, Carol, of Oley; Sandi Schramm, and her fiancé, Derek Vitola, of Scottsdale, Arizona; and Patti Kerr, and her husband, Mike, of East Greenville; eight grandchildren; a brother, Stephen Balinski, of Florida; and two sisters: Florence Tackett, and her husband, Glenn, of Galin, Ohio; and Irene Caserta, of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Balinski, Jr.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at 11:00 AM in St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call at the church Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Interment will follow in Sellersville Cemetery.
