Obituary for Rose B. Strus-Kish

Rose B. Strus-Kish, a long-time resident of Sellersville, passed away Friday, March 3, 2023, at her residence. She was 89.

She was the beloved wife of the late Steven Kish for 25 years until his death in 2006, and the late John Strus for 26 years until his death in 1978. Rose had two sons, Phillip and Michael, with John.

Born in London, England, she was the daughter of the late Walter T. and Ellen (O’Brien) Maginn. One of eight children, she was, in fact, meant to be born with a twin, but, sadly, her twin was stillborn. As a very young child, Rose was hospitalized for a number of years and received treatment from Madam Curie, the famous physicist most well-known for discovering radium, among other things. During her stay, Rose was also carried down the halls of the hospital by King George V.

Rose completed her secondary education in England.

After settling in Sellersville in 1962, Rose had been employed as a seamstress at several local factories, including Jacques deLoux, Inc, of Sellersville. Later, while employed at Quaker Safety, she was particularly involved with the production of fire suits for race car driver, Mario Andretti, and with camouflage netting for the military.

She was a long-time faithful member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir for a number of years. Her religion was very near and dear to her heart. In later years, when it was no longer easy for her to make it to church, she made sure never to miss Sunday Mass on the television.

Rose was a 36-year member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sellersville Fire Department, where she had volunteered as the cashier at the weekly Thursday Bingo nights. She had also served as the “French Fries Lady” at the annual Sellersville Fire Department Carnival and worked on various food preparation committees for Auxiliary events.

Rose was a very passionate woman, who truly appreciated the beauty in life. She was particularly passionate about sewing, crocheting, gardening, tending to her fish pond, breeding dachshunds, traveling, crabbing down at the shore, watching football (the Philadelphia Eagles!), collecting Royal family memorabilia (especially Princess Diana), and shopping for the people she loved. But above all, Rose was always happiest when accompanied by her loving family.

Rose was an incredibly kind, caring, loving, and giving person. She was constantly donating to various charities, giving things of use to Purple Heart, volunteering her time, and finding any way she could help those in need, as well as everyone around her. With her cheerfulness and contagious laughter, she could light up any room she was in. Her absence is deeply felt.

She is survived by her son, Phillip N. Strus, of Sellersville, five grandchildren: Cassandra Strus and John Strus, both of Sellersville, Amanda Strus, of Utah, Gregory Strus, and Roxanne Strus, both of Quakertown; five great-grandchildren: Samantha Strus, Sophia Strus, Brianna Strus, Robert Strus all of Quakertown, Julian Brigante, of Utah; and two sisters: Cynthia Jones, of England, and Rita Redman, of Missouri.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael John Strus, in 2012.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Friday, March 10, in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, with a visitation from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose ’s name may be made to the Sellersville Fire Department, P.O. Box 315, Sellersville, PA 18960.
