Obituary for Harold W. Hanshew

Harold W. “Harry” Hanshew, of Quakertown, formerly of Sellersville, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at his residence in Independence Court, Quakertown. He was 73.

Born in New York City, Harry was the son of Hortense H. (Alonzo) Rodriquez, of Valrico, FL, and the late Ernest H. Hanshew. Harry was a 1966 graduate of Souderton High School.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Mr. Hanshew served from 1969-1972.

Harry had been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the highways and road maintenance division, based in Red Hill. He retired in 2014.

Mr. Hanshew was a past president of the Souderton-Telford Jaycees and a member of the Souderton American Legion, Post 234. Harry was also a member of the Nase-Kraft American Legion, Post 255, Sellersville, where he had been a past board member.

An avid hunter, especially of whitetail deer, Harry had also enjoyed outdoor chores, including lawn mowing, mulching, and chopping firewood. He had also particularly liked time spent with friends socializing at the American Legion.

In addition to his mother, Harry is survived by his two sons: Michael T. Hanshew, and his wife, Laura Jones, of Telford, and Christopher Hanshew, of Sellersville; three granddaughters: Deneen Hanshew Gray, of Hernando, MS, Amanda Hanshew, of Macungie, and Christina Hanshew, of Doylestown; a brother, David Hanshew, of Sellersville; and his companion, Joan Yerk, of Sellersville.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn (Landis) Hanshew, who died in 2006 after thirteen years of marriage.

His Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, August 12, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2 p.m. in the Nase-Kraft American Legion, Post 255, 75 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
