Obituary for Paul E. Helm

Paul E. Helm, a long-time resident of Sellersville, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was 77.

He was the beloved husband of the late Katherine “Kitty” L. (McKeown) Helm for 41 years until her death in 2012.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late William T. and Callista F. (McMahon) Helm. The family later moved to Colmar, and Paul helped his father build the new family home. Paul was a 1962 graduate of Lansdale Catholic High School.

Mr. Helm was a U. S. Navy veteran, having served from 1962-1966, with his last active-duty assignment on the submarine, the USS Nathanael Greene.

Paul had retired from Allegro, formerly Solid State Scientific, Inc., of Willow Grove, where he had been employed for more than 20 years with their building maintenance and HVAC departments. He had also owned and operated his own residential heating and air conditioning business, where he was renowned for always being fair to his customers and never overcharging.

He was a long-time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville.

With his wife, he had also been active for many years with the Independent Order of Foresters, doing volunteer work for the greater community.

Always recognized for his silly, goofy nature, Paul loved to make people laugh. He and Kitty had enjoyed traveling and time-share vacations in distant locations, as well as dancing and bowling. Interested in learning about all kinds of animals, Paul had also enjoyed watching old Westerns and his favorite TV shows, “Wings” and “Monk.” Activities with his Lansdale Catholic alumni group, of which he was an organizer, allowed him to maintain decades-long friendships.

Mr. Helm is survived by his daughter, Teresa L. Gledhill, of West Rockhill Township; four grandchildren: Leo Gledhill, of West Rockhill Township, Grace, Theo, and Ford, all of San Francisco, CA; a sister, Dorothy Trout, of Hatfield; and his son-in-law, Ronald J. Gledhill.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by their son, Matthew E. Helm, in 2014.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2022, in Sellersville Cemetery, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Paul’s love of animals, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Bucks County SPCA, 60 Reservoir Road, Quakertown, PA 18951.
