Obituary for Paul A. Yoder

Paul A. Yoder, a long-time resident of Sellersville, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021, in Gwynedd Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lansdale. He was 87.

He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor G. (Baith) Yoder for 36 years until her death in 2018.

Born in Souderton, he was the son of the late Paul B. and Anna L. (Snyder) Yoder. He was a 1952 graduate of Souderton High School.

After graduation, he worked in the family business at the Souderton Baking Company, making Dan-Dee Bread and other products.

Mr. Yoder was a U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Grafenwöhr, Germany from 1956-1958 as a mail clerk.

Upon his return stateside, Paul took over one of the bakery routes, serving local residents and farmers. He especially enjoyed when children would come running to his truck to choose special items that he carried for them. Later employed by the former E. C. Geiger, Inc., Harleysville, Paul delivered horticultural products to commercial greenhouses, while also enjoying stops at his favorite lunch spots on his route.

An avid gardener, Paul especially loved perennials, warning, “If you touch them, you better run.” He enjoyed Swisher Sweets Perfecto and a good German beer and loved making breakfast with the best meats, eggs, and day-old bread.

Paul was a fan of the Philadelphia ‘76’er’s and enjoyed watching every game, including playoffs on TV. He was also interested in financial programs, following the stock market.

A trip back to Germany to visit his former base and re-connect with old friends was a fond memory. At home his beloved companion was the feral cat who lived in the heated shed and enjoyed two square meals a day, thanks to Paul.

Paul will be dearly missed by his two sons: Robert (Lollie) Perry, of Harrisburg, and Edward (Pattie) Perry, of Zion Hill; three daughters: Bonnie (Tim) Baker, of Chalfont, Christine (Ken) Cornwell, of Ambler, and Jo Ann (Barry) Wagner, of Upper Black Eddy. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Melissa (Guy) DelMonte, Jeremy (Mary) Perry, Kendell Cornwell, Bridget (Tim) Kerns, Nicole Baker, Bryan Wagner, Candace (James) Wentworth, Samantha (Robert) Nunn, Shawn Cornwell, Tabatha Wagner, Patrick Cornwell, and Zachary Cornwell.

He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren: Jordyn, Bryson, Alexa, Bradee, Rhett, Averi, Connor, Sloane, Gabrielle, Brittany, Lincoln, Michael, Jack, and Clementine; two sisters: Joslyn (Richard) Kirsch, and Sylvia (Thomas) Snedaker, all of Souderton; a brother, Bradley Yoder, of Perkasie; six nieces; and four nephews.

His Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 12, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service. The family requests that face masks be worn by all attending services at the funeral home.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Yoder’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
