Obituary for Clarence Hibbs

Clarence Hibbs, a long-time resident of the Lutheran Community at Telford, formerly of West Rockhill Township, passed away at the Community on Monday, May 31, 2021. He was 94.

He was the beloved husband of Perma L. Hibbs for 71 years, until her death in 2019.

Born in West Rockhill Township and raised in Pennsburg, he was the son of the late Theodore and Ella (Seachrist) Hibbs.

Mr. Hibbs was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Beverly as a Seaman 1st Class.

Clarence had been employed for many years as a site engineer for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, retiring in 1987.

A long-time active member of St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville, Mr. Hibbs, until his death, was the oldest male member of the congregation.

He was a life member of the Sellersville Fire Department, where he had served as Treasurer. Always a proud Dutchman, Clarence was also a member of the local Grundsau Lodge.

Clarence loved keeping busy and tinkering on various projects around the house. He also enjoyed going out to eat at local establishments with family and friends.

Renowned as a prankster and practical joker, he was always ready to share a joke or a funny story. Loved by all, Clarence, with his warm, joyous smile and infectious laugh, will be deeply missed.

Mr. Hibbs is survived by his four children: Linda Hufnagle and her husband, Thomas, of Sellersville; Bonnie Furlong, of Brownstown, PA; David Hibbs and his wife, Brenda, of Perkasie; Tina Fiorey and her husband, Robert, of West Columbia, South Carolina; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two half-sisters, Sandy Roach and Joan Neal.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Hibbs, and a half-sister, Doris Reichenbach.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, in St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Interment with military honors will follow in Sellersville Cemetery.
