Obituary for Robert B. Wenhold

Robert B. “Whitey” Wenhold, of Perkasie, passed away at his residence, surrounded by his loved ones, on Saturday, April 25, 2020. He was 90.

He was the beloved husband of Bonnie M. (Orr) Wenhold for 61 years.

Born in Perkasie, he was a son of the late Hiram B. and Nellie Mae (Bright) Wenhold. Whitey was a 1948 graduate of Sell-Perk High School.

Mr. Wenhold was a U.S. Army veteran, deployed to Germany in 1951-1953 during the Korean War, where he served as a cook. He loved to tell his family and friends how he could fry one hundred eggs without breaking one yolk during his time in the Army.

Upon his return stateside, Whitey was employed by the former Electro Mechanical Instrument Company (EMICO), Perkasie for 20 years. In 1973, he began working for Perkasie Borough, retiring in 1992.

Whitey was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Perkasie, where he often volunteered in the kitchen and served as an usher.

A talented baseball player, Whitey played on many community teams as a young man. In later years, he also coached and umpired. All sports were his passion, whether local, college, or professional, although he reserved a special place in his heart for Philadelphia Eagles game days with his family. He also enjoyed volunteering and cheering at his son’s swim meets.

Always a warm, personable, sociable man, Whitey loved greeting fellow walkers in Lenape Park, family vacations in Ocean City, and gathering with friends for coffee. He adored his family and delighted in keeping up with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sports and activities.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Wenhold is survived by his daughter, Donna Boyer Herman, and her husband, George Herman; his son, James Wenhold, and his wife, Amy Dilweg Wenhold; four grandchildren, Amber Boyer Hausman, James “Jake” Boyer, Jaimy Wenhold, and Amanda Wenhold; five great-grandchildren, Ariel, Hunter, Alden, Kenton, and Brynn; and a sister, Patricia Hendricks, and her husband, Darwin. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Kenneth, Jacob, Ronald, Hiram, and Gordon, and two sisters, Dorothy and Elaine.

All services are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Wenhold’s name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 19 South 5th Street, Perkasie, PA 18944 or to Grand View Hospice Services, Grand View Health Foundation, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA 18960.
