Obituary for Holly D. Olson
Holly DiMicco Olson, 58, of Sellersville, passed away at home on May 1, 2019, after an extended battle with ovarian cancer.
Holly was born on September 2, 1960, to Anthony DiMicco and Charlene Brown DiMicco in Bristol, PA. Holly graduated from the George School in Newtown, PA. Holly married Thomas Olson on May 29, 1993, in Langhorne, PA.
Holly enjoyed many roles early in her career, including at a print shop, a doctor’s office in California, and at Richboro MRI. Later, she found her true calling as Coordinator for Bucks Quarter for the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker). This position leveraged her strengths in organization and communication between the local Quaker community and the wider Quaker and non-Quaker community at large. Her true gifts were helping people, spreading love, and touching people’s hearts and minds. These gifts will live on through the continued actions of those who knew and loved her.
Holly’s love of animals cannot be overstated. Through her mother's fifty years of experience breeding German Shepherds, Holly developed a lifelong love of dogs, from her first cherished pets as a little girl to her last pack of five dogs: “Lucy,” “Dana,” “George,” “Henry,” and “Nimbus.” Holly’s love of animals was not limited to dogs and included guinea pigs, pot-bellied pigs, rats, goats, horses, cows, and the list goes on.
Holly and Tom also fostered and adopted dogs over the years. Holly volunteered for the Bucks County SPCA for many years, helping to care for and train many dogs, along with working with and supporting many animal rescue and care organizations, like Quakertown Veterinary Clinic’s Angel Fund and K911 Lost Dog Search.
Holly was also involved in the creation of the “Food for Friends” program that continues to feed the homeless in Lower Bucks County at Fallsington Friends Meeting.
Holly’s last project was the memorial on October 6, 2018, for the forgotten slaves buried at Middletown Friends Meeting. Holly served as the committee coordinator, bringing together a diverse group of people from inside and outside the Meeting community, all of whom worked for months on the project, which culminated in a glorious day spent recognizing and memorializing these forgotten souls.
Holly is survived by her husband, Thomas Olson, of Sellersville, PA; brothers, David DiMicco (Meagan Longcore), of Solebury, PA; and Bruce (Debbie) DiMicco, of Newtown PA; sister, Veronica (DiMicco) Clime (Fred); step-daughter, Joan (Olson) Bertone, son-in-law, Kyle Bertone, and granddaughter, Olivia Bertone, all of Hershey, PA; nieces, Inga Mitchell-DiMicco, Gioia DiMicco, and Grace Mitchell-DiMicco; nephews, Gary Clime and Jason Clime; and too many friends to name.
Holly was an ardent environmentalist. This extended to her own plan for a green burial. Holly is interred in the green burial section of Middletown Monthly Meeting’s Burial Ground, located in Langhorne, PA.
Holly's memorial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 22, 2019, at Middletown Friends Meeting in Langhorne. We will be using the Langhorne Heritage Farm for parking and reserving spaces at the Meetinghouse for handicapped parking and those guests for whom parking at the farm would be a hardship. There will be a van shuttling guests from the farm to the Meetinghouse. It's also a short walk from the farm through a wooded path to the Meetinghouse or on sidewalks to the Meetinghouse. Please aim your GPS or map software at this address for the Langhorne Heritage Farm, 222 North Green Street, Langhorne, PA. 19047. We invite you to join us for lunch after the service.
