Obituary for Jeanne Grater

Jeanne Grater, of Harleysville, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019. She was 64.

She was the wife of Douglas Grater for 26 years.

Born in New London, Connecticut, Jeanne was the daughter of the late William T. and Diana C. (Cooper) Atkins.

She grew up in Kendall Park, New Jersey and was a proud member of the South Brunswick High School drill team. She then graduated from Pennridge High School, Perkasie, PA and later earned an MBA in Business Management at Eastern University.

She had been employed for more than 30 years as a senior communications associate with Verizon before her retirement.

A loving and devoted mother, she never missed any of her children’s soccer games or extra-curricular activities. Strong family ties allowed for extra special holiday and birthday celebrations with family and friends. She loved her cats and enjoyed writing poetry in her free time.

Jeanne enjoyed her retirement catching up with old friends, reading good books, and watching “General Hospital.”

As a woman of great strength, Jeanne’s perseverance and determination had enabled her to bounce back after a number of serious health challenges throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Jeanne is survived by her children, John P. Grater, of Hatfield; Diana G. Grater, of Philadelphia; her three sisters, Nancy Earnshaw and her husband Neil, of Long Beach, CA; Susan Simon and her husband Richard, of Pennsburg, and Amy Nees and her husband Glenn, of Telford; three nieces, Andrea Simon, Monica Nees, and Jeanette Nees; and her in-laws, Paul M. and Grace Y. Grater.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, William Moyer.

Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 23, in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (Ridge Valley), 910 Allentown Road, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Sellersville (Ridge Valley).
