Condolence: Thank you, Anne, for bringing sweet Joe to Austin when I was visiting you and your Mom there last year. It was absolutely wonderful to see him again after so many years. He was as gorgeous and charming as ever – smart, witty, gregarious and full of humor and heart. The same Joe I knew and adored in high school, but older and wiser, of course, and a little pensive, as he was at a crossroads in his life at that time. We talked for hours, and it was such a treat to have him all to myself for a while at a bar and grill near Anne’s home. Well, almost to myself. Joe had such a dynamic personality – flirty, funny, outgoing. Qualities that were not at all lost on the many pretty ladies at that bar and grill. I think they were a little jealous of me! Joe’s greatest joy that day was sharing photos of Aiden, Jacob, and Kathryn. Looking at their lovely faces was like glimpsing the teen-aged Joe I knew in high school. I want to cry when I think of how young he still was, and how quickly and suddenly he left us. But then I have to smile, when I think of his dear mother, and imagine “Miss Betty” welcoming her little caboose home. Sending love to Joe and all the Westdykes – Jennifer Hassan

Condolence: I will always treasure the times I spent at Joe's house as a child . Exploring the land and swinging on the rope swing into the creek :)
