Obituary for Marie P. Dare

Marie Philomena Dare, formerly of Sellersville, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018, in Brentwood at Fore Ranch, Ocala, Florida. She was 102.

She was the wife of the late David C. Dare, who died in 1974.

Born in Sellersville, she was the daughter of the late August and Cornelia (Gutmann) Bader. She was a 1934 graduate of Sell-Perk High School and a 1938 graduate of Drexel Institute of Technology.

She was formerly a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Sellersville.

Marie obtained her teaching certificate and taught school until enlisting in the United States Naval Reserves. She served in the USNR from 1943-1946, receiving an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Lieutenant Second Class.

After the war, Marie started her own printing business and was a successful businesswoman, before returning to teaching at Pennridge High School, Perkasie in 1970.

Marie and David retired to Florida, residing in the Silver Springs Shores/Ocala area.

Marie enjoyed painting, travel, tennis, bowling, playing the piano, and tending to her roses. She especially loved horses and her poodles.

Mrs. Dare is survived by her two nephews, William Slotter and James Slotter, and a niece, June Malachosky, and their families.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and William Slotter.

Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019, in the Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until time of service.

Interment will follow in Sellersville Cemetery.
