Obituary for Elizabeth S. Dovi

Elizabeth Shahin Dovi passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. She was 90.

Born in Niagara Falls, New York, she was the fourth of seven children born to Lebanese immigrants, the late Naif and Sadie (Joseph) Shahin.

A transplant to Sellersville in 1966, Elizabeth and her husband, Santo, together raised the five children who survive her, Gayle, Daniel, Donna, Robert, and Christopher. She is also survived by granddaughters, Briana, Sarah, Gabrielle, and Gracie, and grandsons, Michael, Joshua, Sam, and Joseph.

With her eldest child in high school, Elizabeth returned to the work force, working at H.F. Manufacturing Company, Perkasie until its closing. She later worked in retail at Hess’s. Over the years, Elizabeth made many friends at work and enjoyed interacting with the customers at Hess’s.

Always attached to her Niagara Falls hometown, Elizabeth had faithfully travelled every July to the Shahin family reunion, followed by a two-week stay with her sister, May. Over the years, she attended the weddings of most of her 30 nieces and nephews held in upstate New York and beyond. She particularly enjoyed visiting her father in Florida in his later years.

A great cook of Lebanese food, she expanded her cooking skills to learn Sicilian recipes and American fare. Elizabeth ensured her children enjoyed wonderful Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas celebrations.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Elizabeth is survived by her BFF and sister, May, and her husband, Reg; sisters-in-law, Jeanine, JoAnn, and Audrey; and 30 nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christein, a sister, Barbara, and brothers, Charles, James, Ray, and George.

A visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 8, 2018, in St. Philip Orthodox Church, 1970 Clearview Road, Souderton, PA 18964. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the adjoining St. Philip Orthodox Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth’s name should be directed to the church at the address above.
