Obituary for Katherine Lokay

Katherine Lokay
Katherine “Dolly” Geisel Lokay, a long-time resident of Bedminster, joined her husband when she passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016, in Brookdale Senior Living, Dublin. She was 97.

She was the beloved wife of the late Louis J. Lokay for 52 years until his death in 2008.

Born in Perkasie, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lulu B. (Alsdorf) Geisel.

Dolly was a 1937 graduate of Sell-Perk High School, where she was on the championship drill team that competed in Washington D.C. She was also a member of the Girls’ Athletic Association.

During World War II, Dolly served as a civilian airplane spotter with the Army Air Force Ground Observer Corps, a branch of the Civil Defense.

For many years, along with her husband, Mrs. Lokay had operated and managed the Elephant Hotel Store and Restaurant, Bedminster, a business formerly owned by Dolly’s family and Dolly’s birthplace. A popular menu selection there was the “Dolly Burger.”

Dolly had been a long-time, active member of St. Peter’s (Tohickon) United Church of Christ, Weisel, where she had taught Sunday school and sung in the choir.

A Republican Party committeewoman for many years, Mrs. Lokay was recognized for voting in more than 50 consecutive elections. She was also a member of the Woman’s Club of Perkasie and had served on the Bucks County Community College Board of Directors.

Dolly loved music, flowers, gardening, and cooking.

Mrs. Lokay is survived by her two sons, Kevin G. Lokay (Danielle Halstrom), of Gwynedd Valley; Craig G. Lokay, of Souderton; and three granddaughters, Kirsten, Annika, and Lena.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, in St. Peter’s Tohickon United Church of Christ, 1050 Old Bethlehem Rd., Perkasie, PA 18944.

Entombment will be conducted privately in Tohickon Union Cemetery, Weisel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Tohickon United Church of Christ, 1050 Old Bethlehem Road, Perkasie, PA 18944.
