Obituary for Kathryn E. Darragh

Kathryn E. Darragh
Kathryn Eloise Darragh, of Green Lane, formerly of Richlandtown and Souderton, passed away at her residence on Sunday, May 8, 2016. She was 86.

She was the beloved wife of William Hamilton Darragh for 66 years until his death in 2015.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph E. and Kathryn E. (Ehrisman) Schober. Kathryn was a graduate of Lansdowne High School and attended The Art Institute of Philadelphia.

Mrs. Darragh was primarily a homemaker, although she had also taught oil painting classes at various evening schools. As a young woman, she had worked as an assistant and secretary at Charles Schober Company, a family business which manufactured wicker and rattan furniture.

Kathy had volunteered at the front reception desk at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville. She had also been involved with the Hatboro Village Players. When a young mother, she had taught Sunday school at a Presbyterian church in the Lansdowne area.

An avid oil painter, Kathy had also worked with watercolor and sculpture. She had also enjoyed classical music, swimming, and bird watching. Weekly bridge games with the girls and a yearly ladies-only beach getaway to play and beach comb were favorite activities. She also loved time spent with her great buddies, “Echo,” the cat; “Baby Dutch,” the collie; and “Bearrette,” the Chow.

With her husband, Kathy had spent ten and a half years travelling across the country and through Alaska and Mexico in their fifth wheel RV. They had loved spending evenings socializing around the campfire, and Kathy had kept detailed written accounts of their travels.

Mrs. Darragh is survived by her three children: Janet Darragh Schmell and her husband, Charles, of Green Lane; William Stephen Darragh and his wife, Ginger, of Monterey, Virginia; James Cameron Darragh and his wife, Nora, of Hot Springs, Virginia; three grandchildren: Heather Winonah Gross, of Statesville, North Carolina; Christian Cameron Darragh, of Waynesboro, Virginia; Alice Gallagher, of Monterey, Virginia; two great-grandchildren, Brittany Prentice Fink and Nathan Prentice; and one great-great-grandson, Aaron Daniel Fink.
