Obituary for Shirley G. (Gross) Knauff

Shirley G. (Gross)  Knauff
Shirley G. Knauff, of the Lutheran Community at Telford, formerly a long-time resident of Lansdale, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 2, at her residence. She was 91.

She was the beloved wife of the late James W. Knauff for 54 years until his death in 2001.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Olive (Fretz) Gross. Shirley was a 1943 graduate of Sell-Perk High School and later graduated from the Grand View Hospital School of Nursing, Sellersville in 1945.

Mrs. Knauff was employed for many years as a registered nurse at the former North Penn Hospital, Lansdale.

She was a long-time member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lansdale.

When her sons were young, Mrs. Knauff volunteered as a Cub Scout den mother. Shirley also worked as a Republican Committee woman, assisting at the polls. She served as the historian for the GVH School of Nursing and was a frequent volunteer at the Sellersville Museum. Shirley was an avid reader.

Mrs. Knauff is survived by her two sons: William Knauff and his wife, Carol, of Green Lane; Robert Knauff and his wife, Joann, of Hilltown; a granddaughter, Ellen; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold “Ike” Gross and James Gross.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 8, in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1000 West Main Street, Lansdale, PA 19446 with a visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will follow in Sellersville Cemetery.
