Obituary for Matthew E. Helm

Matthew E. Helm, of West Rockhill, entered into eternal life on Sunday, November 23, 2014, as the result of injuries from a motorcycle accident. He was 37.

Born in Sellersville, he was a son of Paul E. Helm, of Sellersville, and the late Katherine L. "Kitty" (McKeown) Helm.

Matt was a 1995 graduate of Pennridge High School.

He had been employed as a paving contractor for Capece Paving, of Telford and Frank Leahy, of Hilltown. He had previously worked for McCormick Brothers Dry Cleaning Service, of Sellersville. Even before he was a teenager, he had worked at the Naceville Hotel and had recently worked there while waiting for his ankle to heal from a snowmobile accident.

Matt had been a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville.

He loved motorcycles and working on car engines. When he was younger, he had played baseball and had been involved with scouting for many years.

A kindhearted, generous man, Matt’s most outstanding attribute was helping others, no matter what the chore or request. In most instances, he offered assistance before being asked. His many friends loved him very much and will miss him terribly.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his sister, Teresa L. Gledhill, and her husband, Ronald; a nephew, Leo Sojourner Gledhill, all of Upper Saucon Township; a niece and nephews, Grace, Theo, and Ford Leary from his extended family in San Francisco; his maternal grandmother, Mary E. (Kujan) McKeown, of North Wales, and his girlfriend, Vanessa Grimston, of Quakertown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 2, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 8:30 - 10 a.m.

Interment will follow in Sellersville Cemetery, Sellersville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation, P.O. Box 781352, Philadelphia, PA 19178-1352.
