Obituary for Fred M. Yoder

Fred M.  Yoder
Fred M. Yoder, formerly a long-time resident of Sellersville, passed away Friday, August 2, in the Lutheran Community at Telford. He was the beloved husband of Pauline (Stull) Yoder for 73 years. He was 96.

Born in Silverdale, he was the son of the late Levi and Theresa (Myers) Yoder.

Mr. Yoder was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II.

Prior to his military service, he had worked at the former U.S. Gauge, Sellersville. After his discharge, Fred was employed for 40 years at Benner’s Market, Perkasie.

Fred was a long-time, active member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Sellersville, where he had served on Church Council for many years, sung in the choir, and served as Sunday School Superintendent. He had also volunteered on numerous committees and visited shut-ins and nursing home residents.

A life member of the Sellersville Fire Department, Fred had always worked at the annual carnival, often in the hamburger stand. He had also volunteered as a Boy Scout leader.

Mr. Yoder was a 38-year member of the Sellersville Park and Recreation Board. He was honored with the 2003 Friend of The Borough Award for his faithful service to this board.

An avid gardener, Fred also enjoyed pinochle. With his wife, he loved traveling, including trips throughout the United States, Europe, Scandinavia, and Japan.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Yoder is survived by his two children: Danna Vroman and her husband, Richard, of Suffolk, VA; Robert Yoder and his wife, Lana, of Ashburn, VA; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Yoder and Joseph Yoder.

His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, in the Chapel of the Lutheran Community at Telford, 235 North Washington Street, Telford, PA 18969. Family and friends may call Thursday in the chapel from 1 p.m. until time of service.

Interment will be in Sellersville Cemetery.
