James D. Steeley

Funeral Director and Owner

James D. Steeley is the son of the late William E. Steeley, a former Sellersville businessman, councilman, and fire chief, and the late Betty Meier Steeley, the long-time owner of the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, Sellersville.

A 1974 graduate of Pennridge High School, Jim later graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in civil engineering. He pursued a career in international engineering and construction for 17 years, traveling throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia.

In 1998, Jim graduated from the Mortuary Science program at Northampton County Community College, Bethlehem, and became a licensed funeral director. After working closely with his mother, he purchased the family funeral home in 2000, established in 1948 by Albert E. Meier, his late grandfather.

All three generations of Jim’s family have followed a tradition of community service. His grandfather, father, and mother were active in both church and civic organizations as Jim and his wife, Marty, are today.

The Steeleys are active with their church, St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, where they serve as lectors and communion assistants. Jim has led the annual Summer worship service.

In 1999, Jim helped to establish Sellersville’s popular Winterfest celebrations. He has co-chaired the event since its inception and served as emcee. He has also assisted with the Pennridge Gallery of the Arts, serving as publicity coordinator.

A long-time member of the Sellersville Historical and Achievement Authority, he is the former publicity director for the Sellersville Museum.

Jim has served as the emcee of the opening flag-raising ceremony for Pennridge’s Community Day and assisted with the annual 4th of July National Bell-Ringing Ceremony, in Sellersville. He has also sponsored the bagpipe band every year for the Sellersville and Perkasie Memorial Day parades.

He is a past co-chair of the Advisory Board of the Pennridge Community Senior Center, a director of the Pennridge Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Sellersville Fire Department.

Professionally, Jim is a past president of the Eastern Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association. Jim is also a member of both the Pennsylvania and National Funeral Directors Association. He has also served on the Advisory Board for Funeral Service Education at Northampton County Community College, Bethlehem.

Jim and Marty received the Community Service Award from Bethel Baptist Church, Sellersville, in July 2010. In November 2010, Jim was honored to receive the Frank R. Kulp Memorial Award from the Pennridge Chamber of Commerce.
