Obituary for Audrey C. (Hoffman) Alder

Audrey C. Alder, 82, of Quakertown, formerly a long-time resident of Sellersville, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 29, 2011, in Quakertown Center - Genesis HealthCare, Quakertown. She was the beloved wife of the late Philip J. Alder, Jr., for 34 years until his death in 1983.

Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Mary A. (Thomas) Hoffman. She was a graduate of Oliver High School, Pittsburgh. She had lived for many years in Somerset, Pennsylvania, before moving to Sellersville in 1984.

Mrs. Alder was a long-time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville, and a former member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Somerset.

A homemaker most of her life, Audrey had been employed as a clerk with the former Levine’s Fabric Store, Colmar, where she had organized bus trips for the employees.

In her spare time, Audrey loved going to the beach, listening to music, and playing BINGO with her friend, Betty Thomson, at the Sellersville Fire House.

She is survived by her three children: Beverly M. Chalk, and her husband, Gary, of Fairhope; Philip J. Alder, of Quakertown; and Audrey A. Walker, and her husband, David, of Friedens; five grandchildren: Eric Mattern, and his wife, Carolyn, of Pennsburg; Erin (Mattern) Maxymillian, and her husband, Andy, of Gilbertsville; William Walker, and his wife, Mollie; Joseph Walker; and Andrew Walker, all of Friedens; and two great-grandchildren: Makenna and Harrison Maxymillian.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert J. Hoffman, and a daughter, Cyri C. Mattern.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at 10:00 AM in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call Wednesday morning, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the church.

Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania.
