Condolence From: Jill Areson-Perkins
Condolence: Mr. C was always a force to be reckoned with. When I think of him, I think of strength, integrity, intelligence, family and faith. I was lucky enough to be welcomed into the family as a close friend of Maureen's. I spent many Coke-a-nights (Friday nights) with the family hanging out, eating popcorn, watching movies and was even invited on a family vacation with them. His dedication to helping to steer his family (and friends) in the right direction was unwavering. I know he helped me become the person I am now and I am so thankful. I wish I could be with you all today for the service, but know my heart is with you. Love to all of the family. Jill

Condolence: I had the privilege of working with Joe Cloonan during my tenure at the Philadelphia Service Center. I remember traveling with him years ago on a very hot week to Austin, Texas. He was a true gentleman, as well as a man of great intelligence and integrity. Although I've been retired for many years, I've thought of him often and appreciated the class and dignity he brought to the organization. His family has my deepest condolences.

Condolence: My deepest sympathies to the entire Cloonan family. Joe, and yes he let me call him Joe even though his secretary scolded me about it, was one of the most inspirational people I have ever met. He cared deeply about people and was always committed to doing the best job possible in all he did. He is one of the few people in my life who believed in me when I didn't even believe in myself. I will be forever grateful to him. May all those that knew and loved him find joy in all the precious memories they hold dear. Rest in peace my friend.

Condolence From: CHRISTINE O'NEILL
Condolence: Mr. Cloonan was a force of nature; I was shocked (and deeply saddened) to learn of his passing, I took for granted he'd out live us all. Thirty years ago Mr. Cloonan was the first IRS executive I had the honor of working for and to this day remains the greatest. He taught me the most meaningful lessons on leadership and humanity I've ever learned. Mr. Cloonan's unwavering standards of decency, dignity and integrity raised the bar I set for myself and I will forever be in his debt. He was an incomparable leader and more importantly an extraordinary man. My heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. May pride overtake the pain of your loss, pride in knowing Mr. Cloonan's impact on others was genuinely powerful and extremely profound. He lives on in each of you and all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.

Condolence From: Tom Pruno
Condolence: To the entire Cloonan family I offer my deepest condolences. Our Lord has called Joseph home to a place already made for him in heaven. My experiences with Joe were in a few different capacities in IRS. I came to know a complex man but a devoted one. His speeches were always inspiring and thought provoking. He was famous for quoting the right inspirational message. Well my friend, Joseph, in your honor I have a quote for you from my namesake, St. Thomas Aquinas. He said "The things that we love tell us what we are". In my time knowing Joseph, he loved his family, solving complex issues and helping people grow. He was a mentor, a guide and my friend. I could have asked for no greater a gift than to have met and worked with him. May the Lord bless his soul and guide his family.
