Obituary for Eleanor M. Wise

Eleanor M. Wise
Eleanor M. Wise, of Sellersville, formerly of West Wyoming, passed away at her residence in The Laurels at Hidden Meadows, West Rockhill Township, on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. She was 92.

She was the beloved wife of Emory W. “Bin” Wise, with whom she had celebrated 70 years of marriage this past June.

Born in West Wyoming, Luzerne County, she was the daughter of the late John and Winifred (Dennis) Laverick. She was a 1942 graduate of Wyoming Memorial High School.

After her high school graduation, Eleanor worked in New York and then moved to Lansdale for a job at the National Union Division of Philco Ford, where she met her future husband and where she watched the first television prototype. As a stay-at-home Mom, Eleanor sold cakes and hosted C & B Toy and Tupperware parties to earn some extra cash. She was later employed at Jacques de Loux, Inc., Sellersville; Contract Service, Colmar; the Pennsylvania Unemployment Office, Lansdale; and H & R Block, Quakertown.

Mrs. Wise was a long-time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville, where she had been active with the Mothers’ Guild when her children were young. She was also a member of the former St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Exeter.

Eleanor was a member of the Sellersville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for many years and had served as a past president. She had also been active with the Cub Scouts.

Later in life, Eleanor prepared taxes for family and friends and never charged a fee. She enjoyed Atlantic City casino trips with her friends and traveling companions, several of the IHM sisters at Marywood in Scranton. She also played Bingo at the Sellersville Firehouse. A talented baker, cook and seamstress, Eleanor especially liked sewing Halloween costumes and doll clothes. She particularly loved playing cards and games with her grandchildren.

Eleanor delighted in her claim to fame: producers for an Oxydol detergent commercial filmed a segment at her Sellersville home after she had written the company a complimentary letter on the product.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wise is survived by her two sons, Ronald L. Wise, and his wife, Kathy; Steven J. Wise, and his wife, Linda, all of Sellersville; two daughters, Kathleen A. Groves, and her husband, Daryl, of Bladenboro, NC; Christine Brewer, and her husband, Chip, of Lansdale; eleven grandchildren, Derrick, Daniel, Jennifer and Adam Groves; Holly Wise; Kelly Moore; Jonathan, Nathan, and Benjamin Wise; and William and Katherine Brewer; five great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Vanessa, Carrie, Conner, and Grayson; a great-great-grandson, Henry; a sister-in-law, Marlene "Molly" Laverick, of Doylestown; and a brother-in-law, Robert Weidemoyer, of Sellersville.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Wise, and her siblings, Regina Stockert, Dorothy Ehly, Theresa Weidemoyer, and Richard Laverick.

A visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 12, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a brief visitation will be held from 9-9:45 a.m.

Interment will follow in the adjoining parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 or online at www. lbda.org.
