Mary S. (Sell) Kuhn
Mary S. Kuhn, a longtime resident of the Community at Rockhill, West Rockhill Township, formerly of Huntingdon Valley, passed away at her residence on Friday, September 23, 2016. She was 90.

She was the beloved wife of the late Henry J. Kuhn for 64 years until his death in 2010.

Born in North Wildwood, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Marie “Mary” (Miller) Sell.

Mary was a graduate of Girls High School, Philadelphia and a 1947 graduate of Temple University, Philadelphia, with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She would later earn a Masters Equivalency degree at Temple as well.

Mrs. Kuhn was employed as a first grade teacher in the Lower Moreland School District from 1950-1952, when she left to raise her family. She returned to teaching in 1964 and instructed Lower Moreland kindergarten students for the next 27 years until her retirement in 1991. Beloved by her students, she was renowned for her innovative efforts to make learning fun.

A devoted, creative teacher, Mrs. Kuhn was selected as “Teacher of the Year” in 1974 and was recognized in The Philadelphia Inquirer. In 1998, she was the first teacher inducted into the Lower Moreland School District Hall of Fame.

A longtime active member of Memorial Baptist Church, Huntingdon Valley, Mary taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was also president of the Women’s Ministries group.

Following her retirement, Mary also became active with the Huntingdon Valley Women’s Club, serving on their scholarship committee.

With her husband, she had enjoyed traveling, antiquing and flea marketing and, most especially, ballroom and line dancing. Mary was also an avid collector of teddy bears.

Mrs. Kuhn is survived by her two children, Scott Kuhn and his wife, Deborah, of Perkasie; Robin Connor and her husband, Michael, of Huntingdon Valley; three grandchildren, Justin, Michelle, and Lisa Kuhn; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Gehlert, and two nieces, Pamela Thompson and Linda Fosbenner.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 10, in the Wayside Chapel of Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler, PA 19002.

A private interment will be held in Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
