Obituary for Mary J. Hilliard

Mary J.  Hilliard
Mary J. Hilliard, a long-time resident of Telford, formerly of Perkasie and Sellersville, passed away Saturday, January 2, in LifeQuest Nursing Center, Quakertown. She was 84.

Born in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Ernest R. and Jeannette (Repsher) Hilliard.

Mary had been employed as a seamstress for more than 30 years at the former Royal Pants Factory, Perkasie. She later worked for 14 years as a nurse’s aide at the Rockhill Mennonite Community, Sellersville.

Mary was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America Local 119. She had also belonged to SAAC (Senior Adult Activity Center), Souderton.

While living in East Stroudsburg, Mary had volunteered with the Salvation Army.

An avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan, Mary also enjoyed playing bingo. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren

Mary is survived by her children: Susan J. Ponas and her husband, Edward, of Telford; Donna Swift and her husband, Roderick, of Quakertown; Bruce J. Winter, Jr. and his wife, Jamie, of Perkasie; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence L. Scerbo, of Stroudsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel E., killed in World War II; Charles E. and William R. Hilliard.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 7, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, with a visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow in Prospect Cemetery- Evergreen Hill Memorial Gardens, East Stroudsburg.

The family has requested no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960.
