Obituary for Florence J. (Osipower) Jackson

Florence J. Jackson, a lifelong resident of Sellersville, passed away at her residence on Monday, March 31, 2014. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick W. Jackson, who died in 1987. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday on April 6.

Born in Sellersville, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Anastasia (Kosura) Osipower. She was a 1941 graduate of Sell-Perk High School, where she had played on the tennis team.

Mrs. Jackson had been employed for many years as a keypunch operator in the office at the former U. S. Gauge Division, Ametek, Inc., Sellersville.

Florence was a life member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville.

Known as “Flossie” to her family and friends, she enjoyed the outdoors and liked to walk, play tennis, swim and ice skate. She and her husband were avid skiers and enjoyed many trips to the western Rockies and Switzerland, where they skied the Alps. They passed on their love of the sport to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

As a younger woman, Florence liked to paint and play piano and enjoyed hunting with her brothers. The first in her family to fly, she received her pilot’s license in 1946 and intended to join the Women’s Air Corps.

Mrs. Jackson is survived by her four children: Jeff J. Jackson and his wife, Beverly, of Towanda, PA; Kim F. Jackson, of Sellersville; Anne J. Allen and her husband, Don, of Quakertown; Lizette Kennedy and her husband, Bob, of Westminster, MD; six grandchildren: Jeniva Unger and her husband, Matt, of Lebanon, PA; Kelsey Schaffer, of Quakertown; Ashleigh Allen, of Philadelphia; Brandon Kennedy, Aaron Kennedy, and Nora Ann Kennedy, all of Westminster, MD; two great-grandchildren: Lindy Unger and Alexis Unger; a brother, Emil Osipower and his wife, Elsie, of Coopersburg; and her cat, “Buddy Boy.”

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by four brothers, Rudy, Walt, Edward, and Edmund, and two sisters, Mary and Wanda.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment will follow in the adjoining parish cemetery.
