Obituary for Herman E. Vonderheid

Herman E. Vonderheid, Jr., 86, a longtime resident of West Rockhill Township, passed away Tuesday, June 10, in Belle Haven Nursing Home, Quakertown. He was the husband of Sara “Betty” (Lebengood) Vonderheid, Doylestown, to whom he was married for 62 years.

Born in Wilkes Barre, he was a son of the late Herman E., Sr. and Anastasia (Prudhomme) Vonderheid. A graduate of Bloomsburg University, he earned his Master’s Degree from University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Vonderheid was a US Army Air Force veteran, having served during World War II.

He was a science teacher for 36 years having taught at the former Conshohocken High School and then later at North Penn High School, retiring in 1979.

Mr. Vonderheid was a life-member of both the NEA and the National Rifle Association.

An avid vegetable gardener, Herman also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially loved raising his beagles.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Vonderheid is survived by a son, Charles and his wife, Betsy, Annapolis, MD; two grandchildren: Amanda Fiedler, Arnold, MD; Jad Vonderheid, Maryland; two brothers: Albert Vonderheid and his wife, Anita, Lafayette Hill; Frederick Vonderheid, Florida; and one sister: Virginia Wood, and her husband, Graydon, Willow Valley, PA.

Services will be private.
